Getting ready to summit

Been busy attending Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation course once I'm back in Singapore. Now getting ready to head to Nepal to attempt Pisang Peak. First time my partner is joining me. I've always trek alone for the last 20+ years. Now partner has retired, he's keen to catch up time. I'm so glad he's still so fit after all the years of constant business trips and relentless mid-night conference calls. To be able to enjoy life fully after retiring, you do need a fit mind and body.

Was searching for my Suunto watch and glad I found it. Even though I love iWatch but is just not a good watch for long trips where you depend on solar power using goal zero. Also iWatch is incapable to function going to cold zones. So many times iWatch failed me when I was in Bhutan snowman trek. Many days it just stop running after 10km as the battery has reach less than 5%. Anyway, I'm not crazy about knowing how many distance I've done daily or calories burn? I'm more interested in elevation gain and temperature outside the tent. Suunto watch beats iWatch hands down in this area. Always reliable, tough and works when outside tent is minus 30 degrees.

I'm so used to traveling alone during treks that I can pack my things in 2-3 hrs. Not this time I've to pack for 2. 2 sets of trekking poles, 2 sets of pee bottle, 4 bottles of thermal flask! More wet wipes! A lot more snacks as partner is gluten free. Suddenly I feel my luggage is a lot heavier. Will have to go through again 1 more time a day before I leave.

Both of us are feeling fit. We also need to eat well. I tend to sleep and get up way too early such that I don't eat dinner or anything after 6pm. I always worry about my weight before my trek as I need to ensure I've enough fats to burn during the high camp and summit day. I've some friends who use trekking as a form to lose weight? I think that's not the right attitude as you need more fats than usual to keep yourself warm and be able to endure the 12-17 hours of slog climb during summit day. If weather permits, we'll summit!
